McGlinchey Stafford Law Firm Files for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy?

In a move that surprised the Louisiana legal community, the law firm of McGlinchey Stafford, a Louisiana law firm, has filed for protection under Chapter 7 of the United States Bankruptcy Coded.

McGlinchey had previously announced its decision to close its practice earlier this year, however, it is believed that the decision to file for bankruptcy came after a determination that unexpired leases for its various office locations (with offices located in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, along with satellite offices in 16 other cities nationwide) needed to be rejected.

The bankruptcy was filed on February 19, 2026 in the Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, and has been assigned case number 26-10357, and matters regarding the ase will be heard by Judge, Meredith S. Grabill.

The decision to file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy rather than a Chapter 11 bankruptcy is consistent with the decision to cease operations rather than to attempt to conduct business.
