I am often surprised by some of the misconceptions that people have about bankruptcy.<\/p>\n

\n

Below are some of the more common bankrutpcy myths that I have heard:<\/p>\n

  1. \n
    You can no longer file for Bankruptcy.<\/a><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  2. \n
    You can only file for Bankruptcy once.<\/a><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  3. \n
    Credit card debts can no longer be discharged in a Bankruptcy.<\/a><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  4. \n
    The IRS will audit your prior tax returns if you file for Bankruptcy.<\/a><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  5. \n
    The Bankruptcy Court will take all of your property if you file.<\/a><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  6. \n
    You can no longer stop a foreclosure by filing for Bankruptcy.<\/a><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  7. \n
    If you file for Bankruptcy, you will never be able to get any new credit for anything.<\/a><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  8. \n
    You can never own a home if you have filed for Bankruptcy.<\/a><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  9. \n
    If you already own a home you must give up your home if you file for Bankruptcy.<\/a><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  10. \n
    You can pick and choose the debts to be included in your Bankruptcy case.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  11. \n
    You can pick and choose the property you tell the Bankruptcy court about when filing a Bankruptcy.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  12. \n
    You don\u2019t need a lawyer to file for Bankruptcy because all it involves is filling out a bunch of forms.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  13. \n
    You can give or transfer property to a relative or someone else you know before filing for Bankruptcy, and that person you gave the property to will be able to keep it.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  14. \n
    Income tax debt cannot be discharged in a Bankruptcy no matter how old it is.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  15. \n
    If you\u2019re married, both spouses have to file for Bankruptcy.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  16. \n
    Only deadbeats file for Bankruptcy.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
    As I previously stated, these are the most common myths about Bankruptcy that I hear.<\/div>\n
